Honest Nutrition on How to Maintain Healthy Weight during the Holidays!

We have spent the first of Spring, all Summer and the best of Fall eating right and getting exercise.  It would be a shame to waste all that effort on a few months of Holiday Treats and Over-Indulging!

Here are a few tips that might help maintain that Healthy Weight we have worked so hard to get!

Before attending cocktail and dinner parties, think “Eat something healthy & filling before”.  Don’t go on an empty stomach! It’s smart to eat something before you head out the door.  This simple rule will help if there isn’t much food or you aren’t sure what is being served.  Food in our stomach helps if we drink more than we expect to! Always alternate a glass of water with your cocktails!

If you’re traveling to be with family and friends, pack some healthy snacks for the road.  This will help to keep YOU on track and from stopping for quick empty snacks to keep your trip on schedule.  When you get to your destination keep up that healthy routine, head to the store & stock up on more healthy snacks.  Buy enough to share, everyone can use healthy snacks!

Help prepare the meal or appetizers! If you have enough for everyone than you know you will have enough yourself as well!  Working with the host ahead of time is another bonus, no one person has all the worries.  Everyone can enjoy the festivities.

Most importantly, if you have health issues why make it the topic of your Holiday conversations?  Don’t get too busy to forget what YOU need is just as important.

Most importantly, we at Honest Nutrition wish everyone a Safe & Healthy Holiday Season!

Scientists say the results should allay anxiety for women who fear they aren’t getting enough zzz’s.

Answer: False! More than 75 percent of women with breast cancer have no family history of the disease. It’s important for all women to be screened yearly beginning at age 40.

Honest Nutrition a Hit @Gluten Free Expo

On Saturday, Oct 8, was the Gluten Free Expo.  What a great turn out of people and exhibitors, I would say we all had a great day!

We can empathize with the number of people with Gluten issues, Celiac disease, Crohn’s disease and other health issues.  When I was young and living in California where Almost Everyone had an orange tree, my grandfather was a horticulturalist and worked for the highest producing orange groves in Santa Barbara. Well guess what? I had an allergic reaction to oranges!  I would get a terrible rash and itch all over.  Thank goodness I have out grown that allergy.

But unfortunately the people with Gluten, Celiac, Crohn’s issues will not out grow this disease.  But what they can do is be aware of the number of products available to them to make food an enjoyment not a source of wonderment….”I wonder what reaction I’ll have with this cake, cookie, popcorn, breakfast bar?”  If you were one of the Hundreds of people that attended the Gluten Free Expo you Know the number of choices available to you and most of them are in your local grocery stores.

One of my favorite sample tables was the Sweet Cake Bake Shop in Kaysville, UT.  I sampled a Sugar cookie that was so light and flaky.  A Peanut Butter Toffee cookie that was so good.  I also sampled the Gluten Free Beer…yummy!!  It was light, cold, very refreshing, good job Squatters.  Harmon’s, Dan’s, Macey’s, Lin’s, are a few of the grocery stores that carry a wonderful variety of Gluten free options.

I must Thank the number of people that sampled, commented and purchased our Activz VMA vitamins and Whole 9 nutritional shakeWe are so proud of our products and the wonderful results Everyone will get from incorporating them into their daily routine.  We must have given away over 1200 samples!

If you missed the Gluten Free Expo this year, I would bet the Gluten Free Expo in 2012 will be an event You Will Not Want To Miss!

Honest Nutrition on Type 2 Diabetes

I love going to the stores, that carry my Activz VMA vitamins & Whole 9 nutritional shake, to sample my 100% organic Whole-Food supplements.  There are so many people that are interested in Good Health and Honest Nutrition. I love sharing, talking and learning from all of you.

My real concerns are the people that don’t even try to consider a Good Health alternative.  They have their shopping carts packed with Diet Soda products, Frozen Food items and processed foods that are high in sodium, fat, sugar and carbohydrates.

On man told me my products, Whole-Food products mind you, don’t have enough fiber for a Diabetic person…Really? How much fiber is in that 12 pack of diet soda?

There is an article on Everyday Health, I will post the link so you can read the entire piece, on How Stress Affects Type 2 Diabetes.  But this articles also go on to talk about the importance of Managing Type 2 Diabetes  with exercise, diet, and sometimes medication usually keeps blood sugar under control, but stress can cause blood sugar levels to rise.

Fortunately, I have not had issues with weight although I know I should be out walking and enjoying this beautiful day instead of sitting at my computer.

I could loose a few pounds by cutting out my occasional  Iced Lattes in the afternoons.

And believe me starting a new business at 60 years of age can be stressful, especially when I am doing it without taking a loan against my home or borrowing from family or friends.

But believe me, if I could reduce my Health Issues by listening to the Health Driven people or reading the Health articles that are constantly saying stop with the processed foods and diet sodas every day…….I would listen and read!  And I am not naive, it would be a very hard change to make, but I sure as H**l would give it my best effort!

Read this wonderful article yourself!  Get Healthy! To Everyone’s Good Health!

Honest Nutrition in School Snacks!

School is back in session and kids seem to be hungrier than ever when they get home.  So What’s Hot, What’s Not!

The Washington Post states: “Food allergies and the nation’s climbing obesity rate have prompted some schools to frown on certain snack foods for classroom parties and events.  With the new school year starting, here are some items that are “out” along with some “in” foods, which are safer or more healthful.”

OUT: Peanuts, peanut butter, birthday cake or cupcakes, fruit snacks/roll-ups, fried chips or puffs, doughnuts, toaster pastries, candy, Rice Krispies treats and of course caffeinated drinks, sodas and sport drinks! Just a few items.

IN: Almond butter, fresh fruit, dried fruit, pretzels, baked-whole-grain crackers, vegetables w/low-fat dip or salsa, low-fat popcorn, rice cakes, low or nonfat milk or 100 percent juice boxes! Great choices!

“There’s some debate over whether kids need to snack as often as they do. But kids don’t care about debates! When they get home from school, they’re ravenous and ready to eat!” www.sltrib.com/cat/health dated 9/4/2011

It is my experience that if we eat smaller snacks/meals more often, our metabolism keeps kicking into gear and keeps our energy levels high.  So with all that “after” school studying, after school sports and activities, let’s keep the metabolism High with Great Healthy Snacks!

We are all learning something new everyday or how to expand our knowledge.  Let’s keep our metabolism high, our energy levels high, and our bodies in Great Healthy Shape!

Thanks for reading and I love your comments.
